1. General regulations
- The International Association of Ukrainian Studies (furthermore, the Association) is an international civic organization which unites citizens of Ukraine and foreign citizens on the basis of a community of interests for the realization of goals and tasks provided in this Statutes.
- The Association acquires the right of a judicial body the moment it is registered with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
The Association has separate property and can, in its name, acquire property and non-property rights and carry the responsibilities of being a plaintiff or defendant in court, court of arbitration, or Court of Referees.
The Association has bank accounts, as well as a round seal, stamps, letterhead and its own emblem, which are approved by the Bureau of the Association and registered within the established order of the law.
- The Association is formed and functions on the basis of volunteerism, equality of members, openness, self-governance and legality.
- The Association conducts its activities in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine, effective legislation of Ukraine, legislation of those countries where the Association’s activity extends, and this Statutes.
- The Association extends its activity to the territory of Ukraine, as well as the territory of other countries where branch or representative Bureaus of the Association will be opened.
- The location of the managing organs of the Association is the city of Kyiv, Ukraine.
2. Goals and tasks of the Association
- The principal goal of the Association’s activity are the realization or defense of a social and creative national centered on cultural and other common interests of its members, as well as the expansion of knowledge of Ukrainian culture around the world.
- The principal tasks of the Association are:
- promoting and supporting the activity of Ukrainian associations within Ukraine and the diaspora;
- interacting with government institutions and organizations in Ukraine that help with the revival and development of Ukrainian studies;
- promoting with research of Ukraine’s history and culture.
- To carry out its statutory tasks, the Association, in the established order of the law:
- expands knowledge about Ukrainian culture, and propagates its goals and tasks in Ukraine, as well as beyond its borders;
- assists with the preservation of history and culture, propagation of the Ukrainian nation’s cultural achievements, and the conduct of cultural-educational activities and exhibitions;
- can create, on the territory of Ukraine and beyond its borders, its own subsidiaries, divisions and representative Bureaus;
- promoting scholarly, literary exchange between national and regional associations of Ukrainianists;
- carries out necessary economic and other commercial activities by means of the creation of accounting institutions as well as organizations with the status of a judicial body, and the establishment of businesses;
- promoting instruction of Ukrainian language and cultural history within higher educational institutions beyond Ukraine’s borders.
3. Membership. Rights and responsibilities of members.
- The Association has individual and collective membership.
- Individual members of the Association can be citizens of Ukraine or foreign citizens who share the Association’s goals and tasks and take part in their realization.
- Collective members of the Association can be collectives of businesses, organizations, institutions, and civic organizations which support the Association’s tasks and participate in their realization.
Collective members realize their rights and responsibilities through their representatives.
- Upon joining the Association, individual members submit an application, while collective members submit a statement from a meeting of the collective business, institution or organization, to the Association’s International Committee.
- Members of the Association have the right to:
- take part in the Association’s administration matters;
- elect and be elected to the Association’s statutory organs;
- receive necessary information about the Association’s activity and financial situation;
- leave the Association’s body of members.
- Members of the Association are required:
- to carry out the responsibilities which they have accepted before the Association;
- not to publicize the Association’s confidential information;
- assist the Association in carrying out its activity;
- pay membership and entrance fees.
4. Governing organs of the Association
- The highest governing organ of the Association is the International Congress of Ukrainian Studies, which is convoked by the International Committee of Ukrainian Studies when necessary, but at least once every three years. Resolutions at Congress meetings are adopted by a simple majority of votes of those present at the meeting.
The Congress is considered valid if there is a quorum of delegates present.
- The International Congress of Ukrainian Studies:
- adopts programmatic documents and outlines the principal directions of the Association’s activity;
- elects for the term of three years the body of the International Committee of Ukrainian Studies, the Bureau of the International Committee of Ukrainian Studies (president, vice-president, scholarly secretaries), and the Auditing committee;
- adopts decision about the cessation of the Association’s activities;
- realizes ownership rights of the Association’s property and costs;
- considers other questions regarding the Association’s activity.
- The Bureau holds its meetings at least two times a year.
- The International Committee of Ukrainian Studies at its meetings:
- adopts resolutions about the formation and liquidation of accounting institutions, businesses, organizations, subsidiaries, divisions and representatives and approves their statutes (regulations);
- plans and prepares the carrying out of next international congresses, and approves their programs;
- adopts resolutions about the entrance and departure of Association members;
- determines the size of entrance and membership fees of Association members, as well as their procedure of payment;
- answers other questions about the International Congress of Ukrainian Studies that are within its competency.
The Bureau of the International Committee of Ukrainian Studies is made up of a president, five vice-presidents of the Association, six members of the Bureau and two scholarly secretaries.
The Bureau gathers for its meetings no less frequently than two times a year. Meetings of the Bureau are considered valid if there is a quorum of Bureau members present. Resolutions are adopted by a simple majority of votes.
The Bureau of the International Committee of Ukrainian Studies at its meetings:

- prepares documents for consideration at meetings of the International Committee of Ukrainian Studies;
- approves symbols, stamps and other attributes of the Association;
- answers other questions about the International Committee of Ukrainian Studies that are within its competency.
The President of the Association:
- acts in the name of the Association, and represents it in all institutions and organizations on the territory of Ukraine, as well as beyond its borders;
- manages the Association’s costs and property on the basis of decisions by the International Committee of Ukrainian Studies;
- opens accounts in banks;
- has the right to sign financial documents in the first person;
- concludes agreements in the name of the Association;
- gives orders within the boundaries of his/her authority.
In the absence of the president, the vice-president carries out his/her responsibilities.
The auditing committee, made up of a head, deputy and secretary, is responsible for controlling adherence to the Statutes, as well as the organizational and financial activity of the Association, and acts in accordance with the Regulations, approved by the International Congress of Ukrainian Studies.
5. Carrying out changes and additions to the Statutes of the International Association of Ukrainian Studies
- Questions tied to the Statutes of the International Association of Ukrainian Studies are examined and resolved at IAUS congresses.
The Association informs the registration organ within a 5-day period of time about changes or additions that have been carried out.
- The Association can create its divisions on the territory of Ukraine and subsidiaries and representatives beyond Ukraine’s borders that function on the basis of its statutes (regulations), which are accepted by its governing organs and are approved by the International Committee of Ukrainian Studies.
Divisions of the Association can acquire the status of a judicial body after their registration within the established order of the law.
Subsidiaries and representatives of the Association that are created beyond the borders of Ukraine legalize their activity in accordance with the national legislation of the countries where they will be active.
6. Finances
- The income of IAUS is made up of: entrance and yearly fees of Association members; profits from publishing activity; voluntary contributions from individuals and organizations which assist with the development of Ukrainian studies.
- IAUS’ costs, determined by the International Committee of Ukrainian Studies, are spent on: conducting international congresses and publishing needs; allocation of stipends to young researchers of Ukrainian studies who are studying through exchanges; staff salaries; and other needs aimed at expanding Ukrainian culture.
- The Association, as well as institutions, organizations or enterprises created by it, are required to keep operational as well as bookkeeping records and statistical accounts, and to register with governmental tax inspection organs and to include the order and size of payments in the budget, as determined by legislation.
7. Order of cessation of the Association’s activity
- The decision to cease the Association’s activity is adopted by the International Congress of Ukrainian Studies.
- The cessation of the Association’s activity can occur by means of reorganization or liquidation.
- Reorganization of the Association takes place by resolution of the International Congress of Ukrainian Studies.
